Wilderness First Aid
This course covers basic emergency medical and trauma scenarios typically encountered in remote, austere, or wilderness environments. This includes common medical emergencies such as diabetes, seizures, asthma, anaphylaxis, and cardiac arrest, as well as trauma emergencies such as soft tissue wounds, head and spine injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, and shock. The course consists of in-depth discussions and hands-on training with splinting, bleeding control, wound management, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Also discussed are legalities within wilderness medicine and how emergencies can be addressed in a wilderness environment. This includes topics such as evacuation, litter construction, backcountry communications, and decision-making.
